Reflections on CAUCE 2025 – A Conference Summary
✨ Opening Insight: This was my first time attending the CAUCE – Canadian Association of University Continuing Education conference, though I have been a member for several years. As a business owner member, I experienced the event from a unique perspective—one that fellow attendees warmly welcomed.
Additionally, networking opportunities were a highlight of my experience. The meaningful conversations I had over meals and between sessions created lasting impressions. I even took part in the evening field trip—although I’ve seen Niagara Falls many times, living nearby, it was a joy to experience it through the eyes of first-time visitors. Even the ride on the yellow school bus turned into a memorable moment of connection, sparked by a conversation with someone I had just met.
This CAUCE event was filled with people who are genuinely passionate about lifelong learning and the transformative power of education. The commitment to ensuring that learning experiences are enriching and inclusive was evident in every session and exchange.
Furthermore, the CAUCE 2025 Conference brought together a vibrant community of educators and innovators to explore the evolving landscape of Continuing Education in Canada. Held at Brock University, it was a reminder that learning isn’t just lifelong—it’s life-expanding.

CAUCE Conference Bookends
Firstly, after opening with welcome remarks, the conference began with Robert Dunlop’s keynote, which energized us with his STRIVE framework, inviting us to reflect on our narratives and growth as educators. “You don’t have to be perfect to be impactful,” he shared, reminding us to lead with authenticity. This opening session invited deep self-awareness and connection, setting a tone of optimism for the conference.
Concluding the conference was Dr. Jessica Riddell’s closing keynote, Hope Circuits: Lifelong Learning as a Pathway to Purpose and Collective Flourishing, which brought everything full circle. She spoke of creating educational spaces where learners feel they matter. Her insights into telos—the more profound sense of purpose—and lifelong learning as a tool for resilience left us inspired and reflective. “Hope,” she said, “is a practice, not just a mindset.” Together, these keynotes bookended CAUCE 2025 with messages that were both grounding and galvanizing.
To conclude, the conference was value-packed with learning and connections. I look forward to sharing additional knowledge and insights with you in future articles.
🔥 Hot Tip
Conferences are a prime opportunity to expand your network, but don’t overlook the casual moments. A school bus ride or lunch table can turn into an unexpected learning exchange. My advice? Stay open, ask curious questions, and follow up. Relationships built between sessions can lead to powerful collaborations.
